Dear Family and Friends,
This year I will join a mission team from Bridgepoint Church and Faith United Methodist Church for nine days of service in Quito, Ecuador during the week of June 14th, 2008. Our team will be working with an ongoing SIFAT (Servants in Faith and Technology) mission project in Ecuador.
Quito Ecuador is home to slum known as “The Belt of Misery”. Several years ago SIFAT purchased 28 daycares in the slum area. They found large numbers of children inhabiting small rooms with dirt floors and leaking ceilings. Malnutrition and chronic hunger were the norm. In this area, there is very little work and very little money. The children are often locked in their homes or left to wander the streets while mothers go to the city to try and earn or beg for money to support their families. The homes generally do not have indoor plumbing, running water, and most cases, electricity. The children have very little clothing and food. The hopelessness in this area has always promoted drugs and alcohol abuse by many… the drug lords find easy prey in the children left on their own.
Our team will work under the direction of SIFAT to serve the Ecuadorian people in the following ways:
Construction teams
Working with current SIFAT children programs
Medical teams/programs
